Paying for your homes and services
Other services and charges
Council Tax
You are responsible for paying your own Council Tax. Your rent and service charge does not cover this.
Optional services
Your court may have a variety of other services set up which are not included in your rent and service charge. Examples are cleaning services in your own flat, and personal care services. Details are available from your court manager, and also see the section on Help at Home.
Water Rates/Water Meters
Sometimes we collect water charges from tenants and pay them over to the water company. You will be informed at the beginning of your tenancy if we make this collection and, if not, you will have to pay your water charges to the water company who will bill you direct.
Television licence
The television licence is now free to all who have reached 75 years of age. For those below this age, many courts qualify for the concessionary TV licence, which currently costs £5.00 per flat per year. If your court qualifies, and you or your partner is over retirement age, you may be able to benefit from the concession. We cannot claim the concession as a right in every case however, and it is possible that the National TV Licensing Authority may decide to withdraw the concession should the circumstances of the court change. Your court manager will be able to keep you up to date.
