Carers working at Housing 21's Burchell Court in Lancing had much to celebrate this week, having achieved NVQ qualifications in Health & Social Care.

The 13 members of staff look after older people at the sheltered and Extra Care scheme, as well as providing care in the community. They were delighted to receive their hard-earned qualification, which recognises their current skill levels but also includes aspects such as health & safety at work and productivity improvement. Twelve carers achieved NVQs at Level 2, equivalent to GCSE, and one achieve Level 3, equivalent to an A Level.

A special presentation was held at Burchell Court in Shadwell Road on 27th November and was attended by residents from the Court and the local community.

Christine Beckett, Care Manager at Burchell Court, said: "I am very proud of all my staff, who have worked hard to achieve their NVQs. Their standard of work was first class.

"I would like to thank Nicki Harfield, their assessor from Northbrook College, for her support and also all of the service users, for their assistance and co-operation during the assessment process."

In addition to being presented with their NVQ awards by Nicki Harfield, the carers were also presented with their Ceretas membership by Jackie Carter, Director of Corporate Services for Housing 21.
