Enabling independence through design and technology

Working closely with our design and construction partners Housing 21 delivers environments that maximise independence and choice for older people using good design, layout, choice of colours and finishes, and the use of technology.

Housing 21 works with specialist companies with knowledge and understanding of older people's needs. Residents and their families help us to improve design and layouts through regular feedback. This is built in to our scheme design guide and is also shared with our partners through regular workshops.

We are also able to support technology, telecare and telemedicine projects through:

• the development of alarm technology in our schemes
• by providing safety and security measures within our designs
• by the use of wiring (EIB bus, power points and interactive cabling) to facilitate the use of Smart House devises which aims to emulate the behaviour of a live in carer
